The first annual Women’s Health Open House Event is coming to Minneapolis to provide free screenings and information sessions. The event is set to promote health, demystify fears around cervical and breast cancer screenings by doing them collectively as community, and to honor women as they move through the years of perimenopause/menopause by normalizing the changes they experience in this period of life.
The People’s Center Clinics and Services, in partnership with The Sage Screening Programs, UCare, Park Nicollet, Mixed Blood Theatre, Health Commons, and the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota are sponsoring this event, scheduled for May 3, 2018, from 2 pm to 7 pm at People’s Center in Minneapolis.
Arriving earlier than the Open House start time, Park Nicollet's Mammo a-go-go bus will also be on-site from 12 pm to 8 pm, with drop-in screenings available from 12 pm to 2 pm., but additional drop-ins screenings may be available throughout the day. In addition, People's Center will be providing cervical cancer screenings. To schedule an appointment, call Fatumo at 612-238-3524 at the People's Center.
In addition to the screenings, there will also be a number of ongoing activities throughout the open house event including: drumming, yoga, food giveaways, resource tables, and healthy snacks. There will also be ongoing activities for kids.
One major highlight of the event is a group education/storytelling session focused on perimenopause/menopause. Two sessions will be held, the first at 3:30 pm and another at 5:30 pm, which will be led by a leading menopause expert in the Twin Cities and also facilitated by Mixed Blood Theatre staff, who are actively promoting the fact that storytelling is an essential component to health and healing through their Project 154.
