Dr. Bruce McCarthy Joins People's Center as Chief Clinical Officer


Dr. Bruce McCarthy will join People’s Center Clinics & Services (PCCS) as its Chief Clinical Officer, effective January 22, 2018. Dr. McCarthy will replace our long-time Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Steven Vincent, who has served patients, healthcare professionals and the community for 37 years.

With an extensive career in healthcare leadership in Minnesota and Wisconsin, Dr. McCarthy has a strong record of success in patient-centered care, healthcare operations and quality management, in both managed care and Federally Qualified Health Centers, to bring to this newly expanded role at People’s Center. He holds a Master in Public Health (MPH) from Boston University and a Medical Doctorate (MD) from the University Michigan Medical School, and is a practicing internist licensed in Minnesota.

In this expanded role of Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. McCarthy will provide oversight, expertise to ensure the delivery of high-quality, integrated health and wellness services—efficiently and cost-effectively—to the communities served by People’s Center. This new model represents a shift for the organization, which now brings medical, nursing, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, radiology and laboratory services together, under Dr. McCarthy’s leadership.

People’s Center Clinics & Services (PCCS), founded as the Cedar Riverside People’s Center in 1970, is a nationally recognized non-profit community health center serving diverse communities in south Minneapolis and surrounding communities. People’s Center became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 2003, and operates a network of three clinics and accepts all patients regardless of their ability to pay. PCCS’s mission is to deliver affordable health care, inspire hope and promote community wellness. In 2017 PCCS served almost 9,000 individual patients and conducted over 49,000 visits. 46% of patients were better served in languages other than English. 14% of patients were uninsured. Committed to achieving the triple aim of health care—reducing cost, improving health outcomes and improving patient experience—we’ve reduced hospital admissions by 10%, reduced emergency room visits by 22% and reduced pharmacy cost by 7% over three years.
