People’s Center Health Services
receives over $2 million in federal
stimulus funding
On December 9, 2009, People’s Center Health Services
received $2.1 in federal stimulus funding from the Facilities Improvement Program.
This grant
will allow the Clinic to add x-ray imaging, install a new elevator and upgrade
its heating/cooling system to solar and gas. These upgrades will allow the
clinic to be more energy efficient, expand services for its patients and the
new elevator
will make it easier for patients with limited mobility to access services throughout
the building.
The Clinic has been providing access to primary care to residents in the
Cedar Riverside and surrounding neighborhoods since 1970. It owns and operates
out
of a 100 year old building and is a cornerstone of the Cedar Riverside neighborhood. “Our
primary purpose is to provide access to quality health care for everyone regardless
of economic or insurance status”, states Peggy Metzer, CEO. “The
number of patients seeking care at our Clinic has skyrocketed over the past several
years and these improvements will allow the Clinic to continue to provide culturally-competent,
quality care to those most in need.”
In his remarks, President Obama recognized Peggy Metzer. CEO, of People’s
Center Health Services, and other Community Health Clinic leaders who were present
for “…all you are doing in your communities every day—working
long hours to provide quality care at prices that people can afford, with the
dignity and respect they deserve, and in a way that takes into account the challenges
that they face in their lives…So starting today, we’re making $88
million in funding available for centers…allowing providers to spend less
time with paperwork and more time with patients.”
People's Center Health Services is a Community Health Center dedicated
to providing affordable, culturally competent, high quality medical care
for everyone.
Earlier this year the People’s Center Medical Center implemented electronic
medical records for improved patient care, billing and scheduling. The Clinic
also has a committee that is actively planning toward the medical home model
of care. The Clinic’s medical home team will work in partnership with the
patient and the family to enhance the quality of care.
